Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) fired in 26 points Friday afternoon while senior backcourt partner
Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) pumped in 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting to help the Grove City College men's basketball team capture a 77-64 win over Carleton (Minn.) at the Ocean Center.
Grove City held Carleton (6-4) to 24 percent (6 of 25) shooting in the first half as the Wolverines charged to a 33-23 lead. Overall, Grove City held the Knights to a 16-of-50 (32 percent) shooting effort from the field.
Grove City finished 27 of 63 (43 percent) from the field. The Wolverines held a 44-36 edge on the glass, led by Christenson's nine rebounds.
Carleton held a 20-18 lead with four minutes left in the first half but Grove City closed the period on a 15-3 lead. Randle and junior forward
Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) ignited the run with consecutive three-pointers. Randle added a layup and a second three-pointer while Christenson's basket in the paint put the Wolverines ahead 31-22. Junior guard
Drew Collins (Washington, Pa./Trinity) closed the first-half scoring with a layup after a steal.
Christenson's three-point play with 13:44 gave Grove City a 50-33 lead, the Wolverines' largest lead of the afternoon.
Christenson and Randle both had three steals. Randle also blocked three shots. Grove City finished with nine turnovers while Carleton had 16 turnovers.
Josh Engelberg led Carleton with 19 points.
Grove City will face Wisconsin-River Falls at 12 p.m. Saturday in Daytona Beach.
