Alexa McDole (Evans City, Pa./Mars) and senior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) also scored in double figures Tuesday night to help the Grove City College women's basketball team rally for a 69-66 non-conference road win over Kenyon (3-3) at Tomsich Arena.
McDole pumped in 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting while Sherrerd added a dozen points while going 5 for 8 from the field.
Grove City (4-2) trailed 34-25 at halftime and faced a 50-39 deficit with 3:35 remaining in the third quarter. The Wolverines closed the period on a 12-3 run, however, to cut Kenyon's lead to 53-51 at the end of the quarter.
Consecutive McDole field goals helped spark the comeback while Hasley's three-pointer with 28 seconds left in the quarter trimmed the lead to 52-49. Freshman guard
Kate Kline (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) closed the quarter with a jumper.
Grove City held the Owls without a field goal during the run.
The Wolverines surged ahead, 56-55, when sophomore forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) drilled a three-pointer midway through the fourth quarter. Sherrerd's two free throws put Grove City ahead 62-58 with 3:43 left.
Kenyon reclaimed the lead, 66-65, when Antonia Marzini hit a three-pointer with 1:18 left. However, Hudson gave Grove City the lead for good with two free throws after an offensive rebound by senior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian).
Hasley sank two more free throws with 10 seconds left to give the Wolverines a 69-66 lead.
Grove City bolted to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter and led 15-8 after 10 minutes. Kenyon outscored the Wolverines in the second quarter, 26-10, however, as Grove CIty went 3 for 13 (23 percent) from the floor in the period.
Grove City finished the game 24 of 59 (41 percent) from the field. Kenyon went 22 of 61 (36 percent).
Ulmer grabbed 10 rebounds to help Grove City earn a 43-38 edge on the glass. Hasley and Hudson also had five rebounds.
Hasley dished out four assists while McDole assisted three field goals. Grove City finished with 19 turnovers while Kenyon had 13 turnovers.
Marzini led Kenyon with 17 points.
Grove City returns home next Wednesday, December 3, to host Geneva in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener. The North Division clash will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
