GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team outscored visiting Pitt-Greensburg in the second half 46-19 on the way to an 86-49 home win Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City (3-2) broke open the game by closing the third quarter on a 11-0 run, thanks to three-pointers from junior forward
Brooke McCoy (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield), senior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) and sophomore forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run), and a layup by senior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels).
Grove City led 64-42 after 30 minutes and then scored the first 12 points of the fourth quarter to cap a 23-0 blitz. Hasley opened the quarter with a layup and two free throws while junior guard
Alexa McDole (Evans City, Pa./Mars) followed with a three-point basket. Sherrerd scored in the paint and Hudson closed the outburst with another triple.
Hudson led Grove City with 15 points while McCoy posted 14 points. Hasley finished with 13 points and Sherrerd became the Wolverines' fourth double-digit scorer by furnishing a dozen points.
Grove City finished the game 32 of 84 (38 percent) from the field while Pitt-Greensburg (0-5) went 18 of 52 (35 percent). Grove City earned a 47-38 edge in rebounds as Hudson and freshman guard
Kate Kline (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) both collected seven rebounds.
Sherrerd doled out a season-high six assists. Freshman guard
Haley Mach (Hillsdale, Mich./Jonesville) had a career-best four assists and Hasley added three assists. Grove City finished with nine turnovers while PItt-Greensburg had 25 miscues.
Grove City led 20-10 after one quarter and maintained that 10-point margin, 40-30 at halftime.
Tiana Moracco led the Bobcats with 15 points.
The Wolverines will visit Kenyon at 5 p.m. Tuesday in non-conference play. That is Grove City's final tune-up before hosting Geneva in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener December 3 at 5:30 p.m.
