Pitt-Bradford slips past Wolverines

BRADFORD, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team held host Pitt-Bradford to 31 percent (23 of 74) shooting from the field Wednesday night in the teams' non-conference clash at McDowell Sport and Fitness Center. However, 21 turnovers and a 7-for-23 performance at the foul line helped foil Grove City's bid for a road win as Pitt-Bradford pulled out an 80-70 win.

Four Grove City starters scored in double figures, led by a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double from senior guard Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity). Sophomore forward Liam Conklin (Enfield, Conn./Northwest Conklin) scored a career-best 12 points on 6-of-6 shooting while senior guard Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) chipped in 11 points. Junior center Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) added 10 points on 5-of-6 marksmanship from the floor.

Junior guard Colton Martin (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg) added seven rebounds for Grove City (1-3), which owned a 48-44 advantage on the glass.

Grove City finished the game 30 of 63 (48 percent) from the field, which included an 18-of-30 (60 percent) performance in the first half. That helped the Wolverines assume a 40-30 halftime lead.

Pitt-Bradford converted the Wolverines' 21 turnovers into 23 points. The Panthers had 10 turnovers, which led to seven Grove City points. Pitt-Bradford hit 27 of 35 free throws

Sophomore guard Josh Backos (Troy, Mich./Bloomfield Christian) recorded a season-high three assists for Grove City.

Grove City will visit Penn State Greater Allegheny at 7 p.m. Friday.
