Grove City tops Mounties

WOOSTER, Ohio -- Four Grove City College women's basketball players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon to help the Wolverines earn an 82-64 victory over Mount Aloysius in the second day of action at the Nan Nichols Classic inside The College of Wooster's Timken Gymnasium.

Senior center Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) and junior guard Alexa McDole (Evans City, Pa./Mars) both fired in 15 points for Grove City (2-1) while sophomore guard Kailey Devlin (Turbotville, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) scored a dozen points. Sophomore forward Brooke McCoy (Irwin, Pa./Hempfield) added 11 points for the Wolverines, who led 49-29 at halftime.

Grove City turned 27 Mount Aloysius turnovers into 24 points. Senior guard Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) recorded six steals while freshman guard Kate Kline (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) collected four steals. 

Hasley also added a team-leading seven rebounds to help Grove City attain a 40-39 edge in rebounds. 

Grove City shot 38 percent (29 of 76) for the game from the field. The Mounties went 21 of 52 (40 percent) on field goal attempts.

Hasley dished out six assists and senior center Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) had three assists. Grove City finished with 13 turnovers. 

Sherrerd earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. 

Molly Kosmack led Mount Aloysius with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

The Wolverines visit Mount Union at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
