WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 75-57 decision Friday night to perennial Ohio power Baldwin Wallace in the opening night of the Nan Nichols Classic, hosted by The College of Wooster in Timken Gymnasium.
Senior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) led Grove City (1-1) with 13 points while sophomore forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) added nine points in her season debut. Sophomore
Kailey Devlin (Turbotville, Pa./Meadowbrook Christian) chipped in eight points.
Baldwin Wallace led 41-30 at halftime and then outscored Grove City 25-7 in the third quarter. The Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent (10 of 20) in the third quarter while Grove City went 3 of 14 (21 percent).
For the game, Grove City shot 35 percent (20 of 57) from the field. Baldwin Wallace (1-1) finished 28 of 67 (42 percent).Â
Senior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) collected eight rebounds and Sherrerd snared six boards. Baldwin Wallace held a 42-40 edge on the glass.
Freshman guard
Kate Kline (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford) recorded three steals. Grove City forced 16 Baldwin Wallace turnovers. The Wolverines committed 19 turnovers.
Brooke Thompson led the Jackets with 13 points.
Grove City will face Mount Aloysius at 1 p.m. Saturday in the second day of action at Wooster.
