UPG holds off Grove City, 70-64

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season Wednesday night by dropping a 70-64 decision to visiting Pitt-Greensburg (2-0) in non-conference play at the Grove City College Arena. 

Grove City (0-1) trailed 38-29 at halftime and then trailed by 11 points, 40-29, early in the second half. The Wolverines charged ahead with a 14-2 run, sparked by a layup from junior center Owen Wolf (South Lyon, Mich./Firebirds H.E.A.). 

Senior guard Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) followed with a jumper while junior guard Drew Collins (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and senior guard Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) then hit back-to-back three-pointers. 

Following a tip-in from junior center Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth), junior guard Colton Martin (Centerburg, Ohio/Centerburg) gave Grove City a 43-42 lead with a transition basket. 

Christenson gave Grove City its final lead with eight minutes left, 56-54, with another three-pointer. Pitt-Greensburg's Matthew Marinchak countered with a three-pointer to give the Bobcats the lead for good, 57-56. 

Christenson led the Wolverines with 16 points. Randle posted nine points while Collins, Johncour and Martin all had eight points. 

Grove City shot 43 percent (27 of 63) from the field. Pitt-Greensburg went 21 of 59 (36 percent). The Bobcats hit 19 of 26 foul shots while Grove City finished 4 of 6. 

Grove City also turned over the ball 19 times, which led to 19 Pitt-Greensburg points. The Bobcats had 11 turnovers. 

Christenson collected seven rebounds to help the Wolverines accumulate a 44-30 margin on the glass. Junior guard Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) had six rebounds. 

Marinchak led Pitt-Greensburg with 22 points.

The Wolverines will face Carlow at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Geneva College.
