GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's volleyball team honored seniors
Bella Costa (Newbury, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian),
Lila Stonehouse (Hatboro, Pa./Abington) and
Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) prior to Saturday's home tri-match with Chatham and Messiah in the Grove City College Arena.
The Wolverines' junior class made sure that their fourth-year teammates enjoyed a successful Senior Day as Grove City earned a pair of victories. Grove City (15-6, 7-5) opened the day with a 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 25-19 Presidents' Athletic Conference interdivisional win over South Division leader Chatham (14-6, 9-3). The Wolverines then swept Messiah in the nightcap, 25-9, 25-21, 25-15.
Junior
Sarah Hart (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) paced Grove City in the opener by recording 11 kills. Fellow juniors
Alayna Dorst (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and
Kendra Klusch (Alliance, Ohio/Homeschooled) both pounded out 10 kills while junior
Lily Lagaras (Crofton, Md./Crofton) had eight kills.
Junior
Sarah Harris (Lebanon, Ohio/Mars Hill) helped direct the offense with 20 assists. Wirebaugh added 16 assists. Costa and Harris both served two aces.
Klusch, Stonehouse and sophomore
Lilly Pool (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) all recorded six total blocks. Lagaras added four blocks.
Sophomore libero
Lilly Wojtala (Copley, Ohio/Revere) led the Wolverines with 16 digs. Wirebaugh chalked up a dozen digs while Dorst and Harris each contributed 10 digs. Costa had nine digs.
Hart tallied 15 kills on only 28 attacks in the victory over Messiah. Klusch tossed in six kills while Dorst and Lagaras each chipped in five kills. Harris set 15 assists.
Sophomore
Brooke Manfull (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) served a career-high five aces. Costa and Dorst both had two aces as Grove City finished with 11 aces, one shy of the team's season high.
Pool posted five blocks and Klusch had four blocks. Dorst collected 10 digs.
Saturday's nightcap marked the first meeting between Grove City and Messiah in 36 years.
Grove City returns to PAC North Division action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Wolverines host Westminster (7-5 PAC).
