NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches Friday night by rolling past host Westminster, 3-0, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at UPMC Sports Complex.
Junior midfielder
Noah Gray (Glen Mills, Pa./The Christian Academy) scored twice for the Wolverines (8-2-2, 5-0-1) while junior forward
Ryan Merrick (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) added a goal in Friday night's win.
Gray gave Grove City a 1-0 lead at 17:44 after receiving an assist from senior midfielder
Matt Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore). Gray then doubled the lead at 24:57 when he converted a penalty kick into his team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Merrick closed the scoring 68 minutes into the match when he registered his third goal of the season. Senior defender
Luke Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) assisted the Merrick goal.
Grove City doubled up Westminster (0-10-3, 0-4-2) in shots, 16-8. The Wolverines also held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Wolverines netted seven corner kicks whereas Westminster had two corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper
Keller Krieger (Jacksonville, Fla./Providence) made five saves to secure the shutout win.
Friday's win marked Grove City's fifth shutout of the season. Gray has four multi-goal games this year. He leads the league with 12 goals and 27 points.
Grove City is 7-0-1 in its last eight matches overall. Wednesday, the Wolverines host Franciscan (5-0 PAC) at 4:30 p.m. in conference action at Don Lyle Field.
