Wolverines stun Geneva, 62-61

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior forward Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) drained a 12-foot fadeaway jumper with 10.4 seconds left Wednesday night to help lift the Grove City College men's basketball team to a come-from-behind 62-61 victory over visiting Geneva in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City closed the game on a 9-0 run by holding Geneva without a field goal over the final five minutes of the game. The Wolverines pressured Geneva guard Jonathan Bertovich into an off-balance three-point attempt as time expired, preserving the win.

Grove City trailed 36-27 at halftime and Geneva then opened the second half on a 10-0 run over the first five minutes of the second half. However, senior guard Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) drained consecutive three-pointers to launch Grove City's lengthy comeback.

Senior guard Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) hit a three-pointer to cut Geneva's lead to 48-43 with 12 minutes left. Geneva reclaimed its double-digit lead, however, with a 6-0 run as Ryan Rachic scored twice in the paint and Mark Rachic followed with a layup.

The Wolverines' final push began with three minutes left when senior forward John Ward (Indian Land, S.C./Covenant Day, N.C.) hit two free throws, trimming Geneva's lead to 61-55.

Yarberough and sophomore center Isaac Cherry (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) followed with back-to-back field goals, closing the margin to 61-59. A Yarberough free throw with 1:38 left reduced the Geneva lead to 61-60.

Christenson led Grove City with 15 points while Yarberough finished with a dozen points. Cherry added 10 points. Bock posted nine points on his three three-pointers. Bock now has 200 career three-point goals at Grove City.
