GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Eight Grove City College women's basketball players scored eight or more points Saturday afternoon to help lead the Wolverines to a 100-79 victory at Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.
Senior guard
Jaden Davinsizer (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) fired in five three-pointers as part of a 15-point outing while senior forward
Clara Hannon (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and sophomore guard
Sarah Pifer (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) both scored 11 points. Junior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) added 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting.
Senior guard
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) tossed in nine points while junior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes), junior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) and freshman forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) all contributed eight points.
Grove City led 29-22 after one quarter and then broke open the game with a 19-4 run in the second quarter. Ulmer ignited the run with a jumper while Hudson posted a pair of layups. Senior guard
Haley Hertzler (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) hit two free throws while Davinsizer followed with consecutive three-pointers that gave Grove City a 50-31 lead.
Pifer's layup and a Hannon three-pointer capped the outburst as Grove City opened up a 55-31 lead with three minutes left in the half. Grove City led 64-42 at the half, then pushed the lead to 87-63 after 30 minutes.
The Wolverines shot 56 percent (40 of 72) from the field for the game. Thiel shot 29 of 72 (40 percent). Grove City outrebounded the Tomcats, 40-38. Hannon led Grove City with seven rebounds while junior center
Katie Hoff (Coraopolis, Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) collected five rebounds.
Hannon also led Grove City with five assists. Hasley assisted four field goals while Hertzler and Polczynski both had three assists. Hertzler and sophomore guard
Bethany Thompson (Exeter Township, Pa./High Point Baptist) each had three steals. Grove City forced 24 Thiel turnovers. The Wolverines committed 21 turnovers.
Issy Green led Thiel (0-12, 0-7) with 24 points.
Grove City (6-5, 4-2) will host conference foe Allegheny (5-1 PAC) at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the historic Grove City College Arena.
