Strong 2025 debut for Wolverines

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- One broken school record and a tied College standard helped highlight the Grove City College men's track and field team's overall performance Friday at the unscored Youngstown State University Collegiate Invitational, held at Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).

Junior Alex Mitchell (Hummelstown, Pa./Harrisburg Christian) broke his own school record in the 400 meters by winning Friday at YSU with a time of 48.20 seconds.

Meanwhile, senior Ryan Lenhart (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) tied Grove City's record in the weight throw as he posted a best toss of 50 feet, 3 1/2 inches. Lenhart, who placed sixth overall, tied the mark set by James Parenti five years ago.

Senior Jonah DeWitt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led Grove City in the distance events as he took fifth in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:24.38.

Senior Nick Petucci (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) took sixth in the triple jump (41-5 1/4) while freshman Caleb Haley (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) took seventh with a mark of 41-3 in the triple jump. Junior Jacob Colbert (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) took seventh in the 5000 (16:44.10).

Mitchell also took eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.44 seconds. Graduate student Gabe Dunlap (Harrison City, Pa./Penn-Trafford) finished ninth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-2 1/4. Junior Christopher Kline (Randolph, Ohio/Lake Center Christian) placed ninth in the 5000 (17:24.71). Freshman Jeremiah Knowles (Ephrata, Pa/Ephrata) captured ninth place in the 400 with a time of 51.10, the No. 3 time in program history.

Lenhart added a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a best mark of 47-7 1/4. Junior Tucker Owens (Gainesville, N.Y./Letchworth) cleared 12-11 1/2 in the pole vault to place 11th. Junior Owen Gensemer (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) finished 12th in the 5000 with a time of 19:35.58.

Grove City returns to action January 25 at the S.P.I.R.E. Invitational in Geneva, Ohio.
