HARLANSBURG, Pa. -- Led by a trio of top 10 finishers Saturday, the Grove City College women's cross country team opened the 2024 season by taking second out of nine teams at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Preview. Grove City, which hosted the meet at Lawrence County Fairgrounds, finished the event with 49 team points. Saint Vincent won the team title with 42 points.
Overall, Grove City placed eight runners among the top 20 finishers. Senior
Ella Lyle (Hurricane, W.Va./Ignite) paced Grove City by finishing sixth overall. Lyle posted a time of 24 minutes, 26.0 seconds for 6,000 meters.
Sophomore
Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) captured eighth place in a time of 24:37.6 while senior
Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover) finished ninth in a time of 24:38.8. Senior
Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley) secured 12th place (24:53.4).
Freshman
Carli Freeman (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) crossed in 14th place, debuting with a time of 24:56.2. Senior
Julia Bauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) earned 16th place (25:22.3) while freshman
Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) finished 18th in 25:32.7. Senior
Kaylynn Johnson (Otisfield, Maine/Oxford Hills) rounded out the lineup by finishing 19th with a time of 25:36.4.
Ninety-one women competed in Saturday's event. Saint Vincent's Grace Neubert won the event with a time of 22:32.2.
The Wolverines return to action next Saturday at the Bethany Invitational.
