GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team secured a 1-1 draw Wednesday night with visiting Carnegie Mellon in non-conference action at Don Lyle Field.
Grove City trailed 1-0 but tied the match at 82:31 when sophomore midfielder
Noah Gray (Glen Mills, Pa./The Christian Academy) headed in a rebound along the goal line. Sophomore defender
Jake Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) blasted a shot from 25 yards out toward the goal. CMU goalie Kai Yamamoto deflected the shot but Gray directed the carom into the net for the tying goal.
It is Gray's team-leading third goal of the season.
Carnegie Mellon took a 1-0 lead at 61:16 when Zack Schonwetter scored off a rebound.
Carnegie Mellon (3-2-2) held a 17-7 edge in total shots and a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Tartans also owned a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper
Teddy Almeter (Monroeville, Pa./Serra) stopped four shots for the Wolverines (3-1-2).
Both teams remained undefeated against Pennsylvania opponents in 2024. Grove City is 2-0-1 against Keystone State opposition while CMU is 3-0-2.
Grove City opens its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule next Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. by hosting Bethany at Don Lyle Fieldl
