GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team opened its 10-match Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday afternoon by earning a 2-0 home win over Bethany at Don Lyle Field.
Grove City (4-1-2, 1-0 PAC) pulled ahead by scoring twice in the second half. Sophomore midfielder
Noah Gray (Glen Mills, P.a/The Christian Academy) opened the scoring at 51:26 when he headed in a cross from freshman forward
Evan Yoder (Milton, Pa./Milton). It is Gray's team-leading fourth goal of the season as well as his second game-winning tally.
Junior defender
Aidan Eck (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) doubled the lead at 83:10 when he blasted in a corner kick from the top left corner of the penalty area. It is Eck's third goal of 2024 and the 10th of his career.
Grove City outshot Bethany (0-7, 0-1) in the second half, 13-4, and held a 20-9 edge in total shots. The Wolverines also had an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. Grove City also attained a 9-1 edge in corner kicks Wednesday.
Junior goalkeeper
Teddy Almeter (Monroeville, Pa./Serra) stopped three shots to secure the Wolverines' third shutout of the season. Almeter lowered his season goals-against average to 0.73 with Wednesday's win.
Grove City improved to 3-0-1 at Don Lyle Field this year. The Wolverines are on a four-match unbeaten streak (2-0-2) over the last fortnight.
The Wolverines visit conference foe Allegheny at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Meadville.
