ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's volleyball team split two non-conference matches Saturday afternoon at University of Mount Union's McPherson Complex. Grove City (5-5) opened the day by sweeping Pitt-Bradford, 27-25, 25-20, 27-25. Baldwin Wallace then took the nightcap from Grove City in three sets, 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.
Junior
Alexis Standford (Walkersville, Md./New Life Christian) helped lead Grove City's offensive attack in the opener by chalking up eight kills. Junior
Bella Costa (Newbury, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and sophomore
Kendra Klusch (Alliance, Ohio/Homeschooled) both totaled seven kills. The Wolverines also received six kills from junior
Lila Stonehouse (Hatboro, Pa./Abington).
Sophomores
Alayna Dorst (Middletown, Del./Middletown) and
Julia Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) both served three aces. Senior
Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and sophomore
Lily Lagaras (Crofton, Md./Crofton) each had two serving aces.
Kerr recorded 13 assists from her setter position and junior
Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) added 10 assists.
Freshman
Lily Pool (Ashland, Ohio/Ashland) led the defense with a season-high six blocks. Stonehouse recorded three blocks while Klusch and Standford both had two blocks. Dorst tallied 18 digs and Fisher had 15 digs.
Klusch pounded out seven kills against Baldwin Wallace. Standford added five kills in the nightcap. Kerr had 11 assists. Klusch led the defense with three blocks while Fisher finished with 12 digs.
Grove City will open its home schedule next Friday and Saturday by hosting the Grove City-Westminster Invitational, in conjunction with nearby Westminster College. The Wolverines will host Fredonia State at 4 p.m. Friday in the tournament opener.
