GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's volleyball team opened its 2024 home schedule Friday night by sweeping a pair of matches in the inaugural Grove City Invitational, held in the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City opened the night with a 26-24, 25-18, 25-22 victory over Fredonia State. The Wolverines then swept Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent in the nightcap, taking the non-conference tilt by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-18.
Sophomore
Alayna Dorst (Middletown, Del./Middletown) helped pace Grove City in the opener by posting a dozen kills. Classmate
Lily Lagaras (Crofton, Md./Crofton) added 10 kills while sophomore
Kendra Klusch (Alliance, Ohio/Homeschooled) contributed seven kills.
Senior setter
Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) recorded 24 assists while sophomore
Sarah Harris (Lebanon, Ohio/Mars Hill) added 12 assists. Kerr, Klusch and Lagaras all had two aces.
Sophomore libero
Julia Fisher (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) chalked up a team-high 14 digs while Lagaras (13) and Dorst (10) also had double-digit dig totals.
Grove City trailed 24-22 in the first set but consecutive Dorst kills tied the set. Klusch then served consecutive aces to give Grove City the victory, 26-24.
Junior
Lila Stonehouse (Hatboro, Pa./Abington) pounded out 12 kills on only 21 attacks in the Wolverines' triumph over Saint Vincent. Sophomore
Alexis Standford (Walkersville, Md./New Life Christian) tallied 10 kills.
Junior setter
Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) led Grove City (7-5) with 14 assists and Kerr had 12 assists. Freshman
Bailey Elliott (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) served two aces.
Klusch, Lagaras and Standford all had two blocks. Fisher had a team-leading 12 digs against Saint Vincent.
Grove City returns to action at 12 p.m. Saturday by facing Rochester Institute of Technology. The Wolverines face Thiel at 4 p.m. in Saturday's finale. Action begins at 10 a.m. when R.I.T. squares off with La Roche.
