Lexi Zook (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) picked a great time for her first collegiate game-winning goal.
Saturday afternoon, the senior midfielder broke a 2-2 tie by scoring an unassisted goal at 71:57 to vault the Grove City College women's soccer team to a 3-2 home win over previously-undefeated Dickinson (4-1) in non-conference action at Don Lyle Field.Â
Zook scored her first goal of 2024 after collecting a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area. Her blast into the upper-right corner gave Grove City (3-1-1) its second lead of the afternoon. It is Zook's fifth career goal.
Dickinson scored 1:04 into the match as Lila Brown scored her fourth goal of the season. Grove City forged a 1-1 tie at 14:33 when freshman midfielder
Marina Hahn (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) scored an unassisted goal.
Sophomore midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) broke the tie less than three minutes later by posting her second goal of the season at 17:22. Senior forward
Emma Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) assisted Stevenson's score.Â
Dickinson answered 71 seconds later on Ava Prisco's unassisted goal.Â
Dickinson outshot Grove City, 16-15. The Wolverines held a 10-9 edge in shots during the second half. Dickinson had nine shots on goal while Grove City put six shots on goal. The Wolverines doubled up Dickinson in corner kicks, 8-4.Â
Senior goalkeeper
Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) made seven saves to record her 38th career victory. Five of the seven saves came in the second half.Â
Grove City will visit Carnegie Mellon at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in non-conference play.
