CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team opened the 2024 season Friday night with a 3-2 road setback to Washington College in non-conference action at Kibler Field.
Grove City forged a 2-2 tie after trailing 2-0 in the second half. However, Washington's Kaileigh Brady scored with 2:59 remaining to break the deadlock.
The Wolverines cut Washington's lead to 2-1 at 55:23 when senior forward
Emma Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) scored an unassisted goal. Herrmann then tied the match at 60:49 by scoring on a penalty kick.
Brady gave the Shorewomen a 1-0 lead by scoring at 38:32. Washington pushed the lead to 2-0 at 52:10 on a goal from Sophie Kilbride.
The Shorewomen held a 19-9 advantage in total shots, along with an 11-3 edge in shots on goal. Washington had five corner kicks while Grove City recorded a pair of corners.

Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) stopped seven shots for the Wolverines.
Friday's match marked the first meeting between the programs. Grove City will conclude its weekend trip Saturday night by visiting Catholic at 7 p.m. That will also be the first meeting in program history.
