Grove City jolts Jackets for 5th straight win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's lacrosse team remained undefeated in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 22-1 home win Tuesday evening over Waynesburg University at Don Lyle Field. Grove City (9-3, 4-0 PAC) scored seven times in the first nine minutes on the way to its fifth consecutive victory.

Senior midfielder Lucy Martin (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) and junior midfielder Abby Roetering (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) helped lead the offensive onslaught with five goals each while freshman attack Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) fired in four goals.

Senior midfielder Madison Nazigian (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) and sophomore attack Jackie Rowell (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) both recorded two goals. Grove City also received goals from junior defender Emily Arnold (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana), junior defender Sarah Jackson (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield), junior attack Anna Korzeniewski (Boyds, Md./Clarksburg) and junior attack Maddie Krabitz (Catonsville, Md./Chapelgate Christian).

Junior attack Meah Groves (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) tallied a career-best five assists while Nazigian and Rowell each assisted three goals. Roetering had two assists while sophomore attack Grace Forry (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) both added an assist. 

Junior defender Amber Wartman (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) led the Wolverine defense by causing three turnovers. Arnold, Korzeniewski, Krabitz and Roetering all caused two turnovers. Stevenson collected a team-leading five ground balls while Jackson picked up four ground balls. 

Nazigian had a game-high 10 draw controls and Wartman added five draw controls. 

Sophomore goalie Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) earned her first win of the year. She played the final 34:25 in goal and stopped four shots. Junior Elyse Kiggins (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) blanked Waynesburg over the first 25:35 of the game. Kiggins made two saves. 

Grove City outshot Waynesburg, 40-9. Waynesburg had 25 turnovers whereas Grove City totaled 23 turnovers. Grove City led 8-0 after one quarter and held a 15-1 lead at halftime.

The Wolverines will visit Chatham at 1 p.m. Saturday in conference action.
