Grove City wins 10th straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Fifteen Grove City College men's lacrosse players scored goals Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines closed the 2024 regular season with a 31-3 win at Washington & Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Alexandre Stadium. It is Grove City's 10th straight overall victory. The Wolverines (13-4, 8-0 PAC) led 6-0 after one quarter, then expanded the lead to 16-1 by halftime.

Freshman attack Davis Schneider (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton Academy) tied Grove City's single-game record by posting 11 points. Schneider scored six times and added five assists in Saturday's win. 

Eight teammates scored multiple goals, including three-goal outings from graduate student attack James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus), junior midfielder Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) and sophomore attack Rigdon Greene (Marietta, Ga./Pope). 

Junior attack Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima), junior midfielder Trey Zabroski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood), sophomore faceoff specialist Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Rancho Santa Fe), sophomore midfielder Ryan Walton (Advance, N.C./Davie County) and freshman attack Patrick Law (Jupiter, Fla./The King's Academy) all scored twice. 

Senior midfielder Prince Ayivon (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), junior midfielder Jason Muench (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), sophomore defender Andrew Glasgow (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster), freshman midfielder Tyson Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton), freshman midfielder Logan Fox (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Christian) and freshman defender Nathaniel Clark (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) added goals. 

Greene set a career high with four assists, which gave him a personal-best seven points. Petrolle assisted three goals while Law and junior midfielder Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) both assisted a pair of goals. Tyson Bui, Jones, Walton, senior midfielder Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California), junior midfielder Tyler Curry (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) and junior long stick midfielder Samuel Busby (Doswell, Va./Patrick Henry) all recorded one assist. 

Schneider scored twice in the first quarter, then assisted goals by Jones, Walton and Zabroski in the second quarter. Petrolle, Jones and Lehberg scored in the final 62 seconds of the half to give Grove City its 16-1 halftime lead. 

Glasgow and Ayivon each scored their first goal of 2024 in the fourth quarter. Overall, Grove City held a 75-11 edge in total shots and a 50-5 margin in shots on goal. 

Sophomore goalie Tyler Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) made two saves in the first half to earn the win. Freshman Kyle Gill (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) played the final 30 minutes in goal. 

Lehberg led Grove City with a dozen ground balls. He also won 14 of 15 faceoffs. Zabroski won 7 of 9 faceoffs. Busby and Muench each added five ground balls. Busby, Muench, Law and sophomore long stick midfielder Ryan Evans (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) all caused two turnovers. W&J (3-11, 2-6) finished the game with 24 turnovers. Grove City had 13 turnovers. 

Grove City will be the top seed in next week's four-team conference tournament. The Wolverines will host a semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Robert E. Thorn Field.
