PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's lacrosse squad fired in 10 goals in a 12-minute span of the first quarter Thursday afternoon as the Wolverines rolled to a 16-3 non-conference victory at La Roche.
Five Grove City players recorded multi-goal outings in Thursday's win, led by a four-goal outing from senior attack
Lucy Martin (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair). Senior midfielder
Madison Nazigian (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) fired in three goals for Grove City (5-3) while junior midfielder
Abby Roetering (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg), freshman attack
Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and freshman attack
Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) all scored twice.
Junior attack
Meah Groves (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) scored once and added a team-leading two assists. Freshman midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) and junior defender
Emily Arnold (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) also scored for the Wolverines. Junior defender
Amber Wartman (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) added an assist.
Seven different Grove City players scored goals in the first quarter. Martin, Nazigian and Roetering all scored twice in the opening quarter as Grove City erased an early 1-0 deficit. Shilling and Nazigian both scored in the second quarter to give Grove City a 12-1 halftime lead.Â
Roetering led the Grove City defense by causing four turnovers. Arnold, Shilling and Wartman all caused two turnovers. La Roche finished the game with 33 turnovers while Grove City had 26 turnovers.Â
Arnold recorded a team-leading seven ground balls. Roetering collected four ground balls and junior defender
Sarah Jackson (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) scooped up three ground balls. Nazigian had six draw controls and Arnold recorded four draw controls.Â

Elyse Kiggins (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) played the first half, earning the win. Sophomore
Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) played the second half in goal. Both netminders made two saves. Grove City outshot La Roche 34-11.Â
Thursday's game caps Grove City's non-conference schedule for the regular season. The Wolverines will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play next Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Bethany. That will also close Grove City's current four-game road trip.
