Milestones highlight shutout win

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Freshman attack Taylor Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) set a single-game program record with 10 points Tuesday afternoon while junior goalie Elyse Kiggins (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) recorded the first full shutout by a Wolverine netminder in program history as the Grove City College women's lacrosse team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule with a 20-0 home win over Saint Vincent at Don Lyle Field.

Blythe recorded five goals and five assists in Tuesday's win to become the Grove City player to record a double-digit point total since the program began intercollegiate varsity play in 2022. Kiggins, meanwhile, stopped five shots to cement the shutout victory. 

Freshman attack Gwen Shilling (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) fired in a career-high six goals for Grove City (6-3, 1-0 PAC) while senior midfielder Madison Nazigian (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) scored four times.

Grove City also received goals from senior midfielder Lucy Martin (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), junior midfielder Anna Korzeniewski (Boyds, Md./Clarksburg), junior midfielder Abby Roetering (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg), junior defender Amber Wartman (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) and freshman midfielder Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler). 

Additionally, Grove City recorded a program-record 12 assists in Tuesday's victory. Martin assisted three goals while Wartman recorded a pair of assists. Stevenson and junior attack Meah Groves (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) also notched assists. 

Shilling fired in five first quarter goals to help the Wolverines bolt to a 10-0 lead after 15 minutes. Blythe recorded three goals and three assists in the opening period while Nazigian bookended the period with goals. 

Blythe, Nazigian, Shilling, Stevenson and Wartman all scored in the second quarter as Grove City held a 15-0 lead at halftime.

Wartman led the defense with three caused turnovers. Martin and junior defender Emily Arnold (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) both caused a pair of turnovers. Overall, Grove City harassed Saint Vincent (1-6, 0-2) into 24 turnovers. The Wolverines turned over possession 19 times.

Wartman also led Grove City with five ground balls. Junior defender Sarah Jackson (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) scooped up four ground balls and Arnold had three ground balls. Nazigian tallied 10 draw controls while Arnold and Wartman both had four draw controls. 

Grove City outshot Saint Vincent, 38-8. 

It is Grove City's first shutout since a 22-0 win April 11, 2023 over visiting Waynesburg. Kiggins played the first half of that shutout, with current sophomore Mia Gallagher (Mogadore, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) playing the final 30 minutes. 

Brooke Stoltzfus set the previous single-game points record, 9, April 26, 2022 against Westminster. Shilling is the second Grove City player with a six-goal outing this season. Martin scored six times March 4 in a 17-10 win at Alfred. 

Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany at 6 p.m. Thursday.
