No. 3 CNU clips Grove City

-NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Grove City College men's lacrosse team closed a three-game road trip Saturday afternoon by dropping a 16-9 decision at No. 3 Christopher Newport in non-conference play at Jennings Stadium. 

Grove City closed to within 10-8 with 5:40 left in the third quarter on consecutive goals from senior midfielder Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California) and junior midfielder Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton). However, the host Captains scored six of the final seven goals to secure the win.

Bui paced the Wolverines with three goals while junior midfielder Trey Zabroski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) scored twice. Graduate student attack James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus), junior attack Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and junior attack Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) also scored goals.

Sophomore midfielder Boden Davidson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian) recorded two assists while Agawa and Hougan tallied assists. Senior goalie Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) also recorded an assist as his 70-yard outlet to Blythe allowed him to score a man-down goal in the second quarter. 

Christopher Newport outshot the Wolverines, 59-39, including a 36-29 edge in shots on goal. Stone made 20 saves.

Sophomore Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) picked up six ground balls while Agawa, Petrolle and sophomore long stick midfielder Ryan Evans (Crofton, Md./DeMatha) all had three ground balls. Sophomore defender Sam Stevenson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) caused two turnovers. 

Grove City (3-4) finished the game with 17 turnovers while Christopher Newport had a dozen turnovers. 

Grove City will host Southern Virginia at 11 a.m. next Saturday in non-conference play at Robert E. Thorn Field.
