GAMBIER, Ohio -- A nine-goal onslaught in the first half Saturday afternoon helped vault the Grove City College men's lacrosse team to a 16-7 victory at Kenyon (6-3) in non-conference action at Benson Bowl Field.
Kenyon forged a 3-3 tie with 4:37 left in the first quarter but Grove City (6-4) broke open the game by scoring nine consecutive goals. The Wolverines scored five times in the final four minutes of the first quarter as junior midfielder
Luke Jayne (Vero Beach, Fla./Saint Edward's) and junior attack
Kobi Bui (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) both scored twice. Junior midfielder
Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) closed the quarter by scoring an unassisted goal with four seconds left in the period, extending Grove City's lead to 8-3.
Bui scored twice in the first four minutes of the second quarter, pushing the lead to 10-3. Junior attack
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and sophomore attack
Rigdon Greene (Marietta, Ga./Pope) closed the 9-0 run with goals. Grove City led 12-4 at halftime.
Blythe fired in a team-high five goals for Grove City while Bui scored four total goals. Jayne scored three times and Greene added two scores. Sophomore midfielder
Boden Davidson (Scottsdale, Ariz./Scottsdale Christian) also scored Saturday.
Graduate student
James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus) assisted two goals from his attack position. Junior midfielder
Zachary Hougan (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) also had two assists. Blythe, Bui, Jayne, Jones, senior midfielder
Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California) and junior defender
Benjamin Griffin (Asheboro, N.C./Greensboro Day) all had one assist.
Griffin also caused two turnovers. Kenyon finished the game with 15 turnovers while Grove City had 19 turnovers.

Colton Lehberg (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) collected eight ground balls. Sophomore defender
Sam Stevenson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) added four ground balls.
Senior goalie
Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) stopped 18 shots to secure the win. Kenyon held a 43-42 edge in total shots. Grove City held a 28-25 edge in shots on goal.
Winners of three straight, Grove City begins a three-game homestand next Saturday at Robert E. Thorn Field when the Wolverines host No. 10 York (Pa.)
