No. 3 B-W nips Grove City, 3-2

BEREA, Ohio -- The Grove City College baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision Wednesday afternoon at No. 3 Baldwin Wallace (10-2) in non-conference action at Fisher Field.

Grove City trailed 3-1 entering the ninth but cut the lead in half when junior shortstop Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) singled in sophomore pinch hitter Kenny Lavrich (Franklin, Pa./Cranberry). Grove City stranded the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position to end the game, however.

Grove City grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as junior right fielder Josh Minnich (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) singled in freshman third baseman Sam Bevin (Louisville, Ky./Wake County).

Minnich went 2 for 3 while sophomore center fielder Nick Sampson (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) also singled twice.

Senior starting pitcher Nick Guidas (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) struck out nine men in six innings for Grove City. He allowed one run and six hits, taking a no-decision. Junior Evan Umland (Pasadena, Calif./La Canada) pitched two innings of relief. He struck out two while yielding two runs. Umland absorbed the defeat.

Grove City will visit Case Western Reserve at 4 p.m. Monday in non-conference action.
