AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Grove City College baseball team is 4-3 overall after dropping a pair of games earlier this week at the RussMatt Invitational in Central Florida. Dubuque outlasted the Wolverines, 9-7, Monday afternoon while Alma slipped past Grove City on Thursday, 5-1.
Grove City pounded out 15 hits against Dubuque, led by a 4-for-5 outing from freshman second baseman
Sam Bevin (Louisville, Ky./Wake County). Bevin tripled, doubled and cracked a pair of singles. Senior first baseman
Markus Williams (Sewickley, Pa./Eden Christian) went 3 for 5 with a double while freshman left fielder
Caison Holland (Freedom, Pa./Ambridge) also doubled. Junior DH
Shane Cato (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) singled twice.
Grove City trailed 6-0 after two innings but pulled to within 6-5 after scoring three runs in the third inning and two more two innings later. Junior shortstop
Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) singled home sophomore third baseman
Kenny Lavrich (Franklin, Pa./Cranberry) to open the scoring. Vittone later scored on an error while sophomore center fielder
Nick Sampson (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) drove in freshman catcher
Adam Weber (McKees Rocks, Pa./Montour).
In the fifth inning, Sampson scored on a sacrifice fly by junior right fielder
Josh Minnich (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Williams singled in Bevin. Grove City added a pair of runs in the seventh as Minnich scored on an error and Cato drove in Williams with a single.
Senior pitcher
Nick Guidas (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) started for Grove City and yielded three earned runs in 1 1/3 innings. He absorbed the defeat. Freshman
David Gallagher (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) yielded two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out two. Junior
Isaiah Zuchowski (Barneveld, N.Y./Poland) pitched the final 3 1/3 innings of relief. He struck out four while allowing one run.Â
Vittone doubled and singled Tuesday against Alma while Williams also doubled. Vittone scored Grove City's run on Bevin's infield single in the sixth inning.Â

Jack Houston (Vienna, Va./Vienna) started and allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings. Rookie
Micheal Earman (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) struck out three men in 2 2/3 innings. He allowed one unearned run.
Grove City returns to action Friday with a 10:30 a.m. doubleheader against Rose-Hulman.Â
