UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's basketball team opened the 2024-25 season Friday night with an 89-55 setback at John Carroll in the opening night of action at the Winking Lizard Tip-Off Tournament in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
John Carroll led 21-11 after one quarter and then pushed the lead to 47-21 by halftime.
Senior guard
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) paced Grove City with 10 points. She added five rebounds and four steals.
Grove City shot 40 percent (22 of 55) from the field. However, the Wolverines' 29 turnovers led to 32 John Carroll points. JCU shot 35 of 73 (48 percent) for the game, including an 11-for-26 performance on three-pointers.
Grove City held a 33-31 edge in rebounds. Freshman forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) grabbed six rebounds while junior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) grabbed five rebounds.
The Wolverines will face Alma at 11 a.m. Saturday in the second day of play at the Winking Lizard Tournament.
