NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by pulling away for a 62-47 win Tuesday night at conference rival Westminster in Memorial Field House. Grove City (4-2, 3-0) closed the game on a 24-8 run over the final 12 minutes of the game.

Senior forward Clara Hannon (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) fired in 18 points to help lead the Wolverines while junior center Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) posted her third straight double-digit scoring outing by recording 16 points.

Grove City trailed 39-38 with two minutes remaining in the third quarter but Hannon's consecutive layup and 4-for-4 accuracy at the foul line put Grove City ahead 46-38 by the end of the period. In the fourth quarter, Sherrerd helped seal the win by scoring eight straight points for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 10-3 lead and Hannon's back-to-back field goals in the final minute of the first quarter gave Grove City a 15-7 lead after 10 minutes. Westminster surged ahead by halftime, however, 29-28, as the Titans went 4 for 5 from behind the three-point line in the second quarter.

Layups from senior guard Jaden Davinsizer (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley), Hannon and Sherrerd put Grove City ahead in the third quarter, 34-29, before Westminster rallied again to reclaim the lead with 2:46 remaining in the quarter.

Sherrerd added eight rebounds for Grove City. Senior guard Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) led Grove City with a game-high 11 rebounds as the Wolverines attained a 45-35 edge in that category. Sophomore guard Bethany Thompson (Exeter Township, Pa./High Point Baptist) collected six rebounds.

Grove City shot 26 of 69 (38 percent) from the field for the game. Westminster (0-5, 0-2) shot 33 percent (18 of 54) from the floor. Westminster turned over the ball 19 times while Grove City had a season-low 10 turnovers.
