NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team outrebounded host Westminster, 47-22, Tuesday night on the way to a 70-57 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over the Titans at Memorial Field House.
Grove City (5-2, 3-0) also shot 51 percent (27 of 53) from the field in Tuesday night's win, which marked the Wolverines' fourth consecutive triumph.
Junior forward
Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) fired in a game-high 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting while senior guard
Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) added 14 points. Junior guard
Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field.
Grove City led 35-26 at halftime and quickly pushed the lead to 15 points as sophomore center
Isaac Cherry (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) scored on a layup and a dunk while classmate
Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) scored in the lane.
Westminster closed the gap to 53-48 midway through the second half. However, Grove City broke open the game with an 11-2 run that featured five scorers. Sophomore center
Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) scored a second-chance layup while senior forward
Ben Cano (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) followed by hitting a 15-footer.
Senior guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) extended the lead to 59-48 with a driving layup. Christenson's three-pointer and an inside basket from senior center
Russ Gump (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) capped the outburst.
Grove City shot 58 percent (15 of 26) from the field in the second half. Yarberough led Grove City with seven rebounds. Cherry, Christenson and Johncour all had six rebounds. Christenson recorded four assists.
Westminster shot 22 of 62 (36 percent) from the field. The Titans had 10 turnovers. Grove City turned over the ball 25 times, which led to 27 Westminster points. Mick Hergenrother led Westminster with 15 points.
The Wolverines will host conference foe Washington & Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. next Wednesday, December 4.
