TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Grove City College senior women's cross country standout
Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould Academy) closed her collegiate cross country career Saturday by competing in the NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Bennett placed 117th overall as she completed the six-kilometer course in a time of 22 minutes, 27.3 seconds. Saturday's meet marked Bennett's debut at the national championships.
Bennett qualified for the national championships by earning runner-up last Saturday at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Championships in Lock Haven, Pa. She won the Presidents' Athletic Conference individual title November 2 at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds in New Castle.
Wilmington sophomore Faith Duncan won the individual national title with a time of 20:16.5. She won by 41.7 seconds over Vassar's Haley Schoenegge. Massachusetts Institute of Technology won the team title.Â
A total of 290 women competed in Saturday's event. Bennett became the first Grove City runner to compete at the national championships since 2015, when Emily Rabenold made the second of her two national appearances.
