GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team set a single-game program scoring record Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines rolled to a 116-82 home win over Franciscan in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City shot 55 percent (46 of 84) from the floor, including a 16-of-31 (51 percent) effort on three-point attempts. Fourteen Grove City players scored in the win and no Wolverine player played more than 20 minutes.
Five Grove City players scored in double figures. Sophomore guard
Alexa McDole (Evans City, Pa./Mars) fired in a career-high 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting while senior guard
Jaden Davinsizer (Harmony, Pa./Seneca Valley) also scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting.
Junior center
Meredith Sherrerd (New Braunfels, Texas/New Braunfels) also posted 13 points as she hit 6 of 8 shots from the floor. Junior guard
Reese Hasley (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) tossed in a dozen points and freshman forward
Alexis Hudson (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) added 11 points.
The Wolverines also received eight points apiece from junior center
Emma Ulmer (Northumberland, Pa./Northumberland Christian) and freshman guard
Leah Swanseen (Woodbury, Pa./Northern Bedford County).
Grove City (3-2, 2-0 PAC) led 26-11 after one quarter and then pushed the lead to 57-31 by halftime.
Sherrerd and senior guard
Mara Polczynski (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) both collected five rebounds to help the Wolverines attain a 38-37 edge on the boards.
Polczynski also led Grove City with six assists. McDole had five assists while Hasley assisted four field goals. Davinsizer added three assists for the Wolverines, who finished with 33 assists as a team.
The Wolverines also forced 26 turnovers. McDole tallied a career-high seven steals and Polczynski had three thefts. Grove City finished the game with 14 turnovers.
Maria McCallen led Franciscan with a game-high 32 points. The Barons shot 49 percent (34 of 69) for the game.
Winners of three straight games, Grove City visits conference rival Westminster at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
