GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City College men's basketball players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon to help the Wolverines pull away from visiting Franciscan for a 73-58 win in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Senior guard
Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) poured in 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting to help pace Grove City (4-2, 2-0) while junior forward
Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity) went 10 for 10 at the foul line as part of his 19-point outing.
Sophomore center
Isaac Cherry (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) tossed in 14 points and junior guard
Kyle Randle (Willowick, Ohio/Eastlake North) added 12 points on 4-for-4 marksmanship from behind the three-point line.
Grove City led 41-26 at halftime but Franciscan trimmed the lead to 47-43 with 11:37 left. However, sophomore center
Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) stopped the Barons' 12-0 run with a two-handed stuff and then a layup on the next Grove City possession.
The Wolverines reclaimed a double-digit lead, 59-48, on Cherry's tip-in with six minutes left.
Grove City limited Franciscan to 22 of 65 (34 percent) shooting from the floor. The Wolverines hit 25 of 50 (50 percent) field goal attempts. The Wolverines went 16 of 26 (62 percent) in the first half, including 5-for-5 accuracy on three-pointers.
Grove City outrebounded Franciscan, 40-38. Yarberough grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds while sophomore guard
Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) snared five rebounds.
Cherry and Haller both blocked three shots. Sophomore guard
Drew Collins (Washington, Pa./Trinity) dished out three assists. Senior center
Russ Gump (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) added a pair of steals in the second half.
Grove City finished the game with 18 turnovers. Franciscan turned over possession 11 times.
Josh Zimmerman and Travis Zimmerman both had 15 points for Franciscan (4-2, 0-2).
Grove City will visit Westminster at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in conference action.
