NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Senior
Lydia Bennett (Bethel, Maine/Gould Academy) won the Presidents' Athletic Conference individual title in women's cross country Saturday afternoon, helping lead the Wolverines to a second-place finish in the team standings at the conference championships, held at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds.
Six teammates joined Bennett in the top 25 as Grove City finished with 64 team points. Allegheny won the meet with 45 points.
Bennett completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21 minutes, 54.3 seconds. She posted a 4.4-second margin of victory over Washington & Jefferson's Claire Anderson. Bennett also earned First Team All-PAC honors and the conference's Most Valuable Performer award.
Two Grove City runners captured Second Team All-Conference distinction. Senior
Ella Lyle (Hurricane, W.Va./Ignite) secured eighth place with a time of 22:59.7 while senior
Grace Smith (Dover, Ohio/Dover) placed 13th in a time of 23:36.6.
Freshman
Julianna Lindberg (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) took 19th (23:52.6), which merited All-PAC Honorable Mention.
Senior
Virginia Williams (Copley, Ohio/Copley) earned 23rd place with a time of 24:01.3. Freshman
Carli Freeman (Lowville, N.Y./Lowville) placed 24th with a 24:11.3 clocking and senior
Julia Bauer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) rounded out the scoring lineup with a 25th-place time of 24:17.0.
Sophomore
Cayla Lawrence (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) crossed in 26th place (24:20.4).
The Wolverines will host their annual Twilight 5K at Robert E. Thorn Field next Friday night. Grove City closes the season November 16 at the Mid-Atlantic Championships in Lock Haven, Pa.
