GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's basketball team opened a four-game homestand Wednesday night by dropping an 83-78 decision to visiting Pitt-Bradford in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Four Grove City players scored in double figures, led by a 17-point outing from sophomore forward
Isaac Cherry (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Macedonia). Cherry also had a game-high 11 rebounds, giving him his first double-double of the season.
Senior guard
Chase Yarberough (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) posted 14 points while senior guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) bombed in four three-pointers for a 12-point night.
Sophomore center
Austin Johncour (Sewickley, Pa./Avonworth) added a career-high 11 points. The Wolverines also received nine points and 10 rebounds from junior forward
Mike Christenson (Oakton, Va./Trinity).
Grove City (1-2) led 43-36 at halftime, then pushed the lead to 58-44 five minutes into the second half. However, Pitt-Bradford countered with a 13-0 run.
The Panthers eventually took a 78-70 lead but Johncour's three-point play and Bock's three-point goal closed the gap to 78-76 with one minute left.
Grove City outrebounded Pitt-Bradford, 49-46. Grove City shot 32 of 67 (48 percent) from the field while the Panthers converted 27 of 78 (35 percent) field goal attempts.
Pitt-Bradford forced 21 Grove City turnovers, including 13 in the second half. The Panthers had 12 turnovers.
Bock also had five assists for Grove City while Christenson had four assists. Sophomore guard
Caleb Haller (Delaware, Ohio/Marion Hawks) added three assists.
Jamarion Butler led Pitt-Bradford with 28 points. The game featured seven ties and eight lead changes.
Grove City will host Fredonia State at 1 p.m. Saturday.
