GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's soccer team scored six times in a 35-minute span of the second half Saturday afternoon at Thiel as the Wolverines earned a 6-0 win in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Alumni Stadium.
Grove City (6-2-2, 3-1 PAC) broke a scoreless tie at 49:52 when sophomore midfielder
Noah Gray (Glen Mills, Pa./The Christian Academy) blasted a penalty kick into the net for his fourth goal of the season. The penalty kick came after a red card.
The lead quickly swelled to 2-0 at 51:27 when junior defender
Aidan Eck (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) scored the first of his two goals. Sophomore defender
Theo Campbell (Robinson Township, Pa./Robinson Township Christian) assisted Eck's goal.
Junior forward
Jed Hart (Fayetteville, N.C./Urbana, Md.) boosted the lead to 3-0 when he scored his first goal of 2024. The unassisted goal came at the 75:32 mark.
Eck scored with exactly 12 minutes remaining after receiving an assist from sophomore forward
Carlo Denis (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic). Sophomore forward
Ryan Merrick (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) posted an unassisted goal at 83:43 while junior
Jaden Claycamp (Aurora, Colo./Valor Christian) closed the scoring with an unassisted tally 63 seconds later. Merrick and Claycamp both scored their first respective goal of 2024.
Grove City outshot Thiel (6-3-1, 1-2) in the second half, 16-3. Overall, the Wolverines held a 23-5 edge in total shots and a 16-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Wolverines also had 10 corner kicks while Thiel did not have a corner kick.
Junior goalkeeper
Teddy Almeter (Monroeville, Pa./Serra) made two saves in goal to earn the win. He played 80 minutes, 25 seconds. Sophomore
Anthony D'Ippolito (Mars, Pa./Eden Christian) played the final 9:35 in goal.
The Wolverines have the conference's open date in the middle of the upcoming week. Grove City will host Westminster at 7 p.m. Friday in conference action at Don Lyle Field. That match will be part of Homecoming Weekend on campus.
