Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

A 'Touch of Gray' vaults Grove City past W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore midfielder Noah Gray (Glen Mills, Pa./The Christian Academy) scored in each half Saturday afternoon as the Grove City College men's soccer team chalked up a 2-0 road win over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson at Alexandre Stadium.

Grove City (10-3-2, 7-2 PAC) posted its third consecutive shutout as junior goalkeeper Teddy Almeter (Monroeville, Pa./Serra) stopped four shots. It is the Wolverines' seventh shutout of the season.

Gray gave the Wolverines a 1-0 lead when he converted a penalty kick at 17:24. He sealed the win by scoring an unassisted goal with 40 seconds left in the match.

Grove City held a 21-10 edge in shots, along a 13-4 margin in shots on goal. Grove City outshot W&J in the first half, 15-3. The Wolverines had seven corner kicks while W&J (6-10-1, 3-5-1) had two corner kicks.

Gray leads Grove City with eight goals this year, including four game-winners.

Saturday's win keeps Grove City in contention to earn a quarterfinal bye in the season-ending six-team conference tournament. The Wolverines have 21 points and are tied for second place with Geneva (6-0-3 PAC). Franciscan (7-0-2) leads the conference with 23 points. Geneva hosts Franciscan in the regular season finale Wednesday.

If Grove City defeats Waynesburg University in its finale Wednesday, the Wolverines will clinch second place in the conference tournament, regardless of the Franciscan-Geneva result. Both Franciscan and Geneva have the head-to-head tiebreaker over Grove City.

Grove City hosts Waynesburg at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
