Emma Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) scored twice and senior midfielder
Erin Venus (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) added a goal and assist Wednesday evening to help lift the Grove City College women's soccer team to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory at Franciscan in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Trinity Health System Field.
Senior forward
Natalie Merrick (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) added the eventual game-winning goal for Grove City (8-3-2, 5-0-1 PAC), which has scored 30 goals in its six conference matches.
Herrmann gave Grove City a 1-0 lead with an unassisted goal at 10:47. However, Franciscan (4-10, 3-4) rallied to take a 2-1 halftime lead by scoring twice in the final 10 minutes of the half. Elise Winogradoff tied the game at 35:37 while Eva Dexter gave the Barons their first lead at the 41:39 mark.
The Wolverines reclaimed the lead by scoring twice in a 27-second of the second half, however. Venus scored her first goal of 2024 at 51:18. She then assisted Herrmann's go-ahead goal at 51:45.
Merrick pushed the lead to 4-2 at 72:27 by scoring from in front of the left post after a corner kick. Sophomore defender
Emma Dailey (East Brady, Pa./Karns City) and freshman midfielder
Kiara White (Perkiomenville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) each had assists on Merrick's goal, her fourth of the season.
Dexter closed the scoring with an unassisted tally at 82:20.
Grove City held a 34-11 edge in total shots. Grove City outshot the Barons in the second half, 24-6. Overall, the Wolverines had 13 shots on goal and Franciscan recorded seven shots on goal. Senior goalie
Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) made four saves to secure the win.
The Wolverines also held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Grove City is now undefeated in its last 23 regular season conference games, having earned 21 wins and two draws.
Grove City returns home Saturday to host Chatham in conference play at 1 p.m. at Don Lyle Field.
