PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's soccer team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday night by rolling to a 5-1 road victory over Chatham at Graham Field.
Junior forward
Britta Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) scored twice in the win while freshman midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) and sophomore midfielder
Annie Vannoy (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) also scored. Senior defender
Emily White (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) added a goal on a penalty kick as Grove City (4-3, 1-0) scored a season-high five goals.
White opened the scoring at 16:50 by converting a penalty kick after Chatham received a yellow card. It is White's first goal of 2023 and Grove City's first penalty kick score this season.
Chatham's Ainsley Smith tied the match at 26:40 but Grove City countered with four unanswered goals. Lagerquist broke the 1-1 tie by scoring at 31:41. Sophomore forward
Natalie Giunta (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) assisted Lagerquist's go-ahead goal.
Stevenson pushed the lead to 3-1 with 65 seconds left in the first half when she scored her first collegiate goal. Grove City led 3-1 at halftime and then extended the lead 10:27 into the second half when Lagerquist again scored. Senior forward
Gianna D'Amato (Maywood, N.J./Hawthorne Christian) assisted Lagerquist's score.
Vannoy cemented the win by scoring an unassisted goal at the 70:23 mark.
Grove City matched a season-high with 18 shots on goal. The Wolverines outshot Chatham (1-4-2, 0-1) by a 26-3 margin. Chatham finished with three shots on goal. The Wolverines also earned a 7-2 edge in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper
Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) made two saves to secure the win. She now has 25 career wins. Lisman pulled into a tie for fifth place on Grove City's all-time goalkeeper wins list with Tiffany Yost, who recorded 25 wins from 2010 to 2013.
Grove City will host Franciscan at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in conference play at Don Lyle Field.
