BUTLER, Pa. -- The Grove City College baseball team opened the 2023 season Friday afternoon by earning a 10-2 victory over Penn State Greater Allegheny in a non-conference neutral site game held at historic Pullman Park. Grove City collected 13 hits in Friday's win as eight of Grove City's nine offensive starters recorded at least one hit.

Mally Kilbane (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) helped lead Grove City by going 4 for 5 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. Sophomore second baseman
Luke Vittone (Seven Fields, Pa./Eden Christian) tripled and singled while senior catcher
C.J. Saylor (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) doubled, singled and scored a pair of runs.Â

Nick Sampson (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) both knocked in two runs.Â
Sophomore left fielder
Nico Rodriguez (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) and sophomore DH
Josh Minnich (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) both doubled, with Minnich also scoring twice.Â
Sophomore starting pitcher
Evan Umland (Pasadena, Calif./La Canada) pitched four innings, his predetermined limit, and earned the victory. He allowed one run and three hits while striking out two.Â
Junior
Nick Guidas (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) followed with four innings of relief. The left-hander struck out one and allowed one run in his stint. Sophomore
Isaiah Zuchowski (Barneveld, N.Y./Poland) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for Grove City.Â
Grove City (1-0) will visit Asbury (Ky.) next Friday and Saturday for a three-game series.Â
