Grove City sweeps Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's volleyball team remained alive for a spot in next week's Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament by earning a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 victory Wednesday night at Thiel in conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

Wednesday's win sets up a winner-take-all match Saturday afternoon between Grove City (18-10, 4-5 PAC) and visiting Geneva (11-11, 4-5) in the Grove City College Arena. Only the winner will earn one of the six berths in the conference tournament.

Senior Eloise Sutter (Lebanon, Ohio/Mars Hill) and freshman Alayna Dorst (Middletown, Del./Middletown) both posted 10 kills on 24 attacks to help lead Grove City's offense. Freshman Alexis Standford (Walkersville, Md./New Life Christian) added seven kills for the Wolverines.

Junior setter Kennedy Kerr (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) recorded 19 assists while sophomore Brooklyn Wirebaugh (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) added 13 assists. Wirebaugh also served two aces.

Standford led the Wolverines with four blocks while junior Audrey Donnelly (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Woodridge) recorded three blocks. Senior defensive specialist Gabby Lucas (Butler, Pa./Butler) led Grove City with 15 digs. Classmate Grace Kim (Sanford, N.C./Harnett Warriors) chalked up 11 digs.

Grove City will host Geneva at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Grove City College Arena. It is also Senior Day for the Wolverines.
