GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Six Grove City College women's soccer players scored goals Wednesday afternoon to vault the Wolverines to an 8-0 home win over Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Don Lyle Field.
Sophomore midfielder
Rian Garvey (Hookstown, Pa./South Side Beaver) and freshman midfielder
Tori Stevenson (Butler, Pa./Butler) both scored twice for Grove City (6-4-1, 3-0-1 PAC) while senior forward
Megan Mathes (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) recorded a goal and two assists.
Sophomore forward
Annie Vannoy (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) added a goal and an assist in Wednesday's win. The Wolverines also received goals from freshman defender
Emma Dailey (East Brady, Pa./Karns City) and sophomore midfielder
Anna Williams (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) as Grove City remained atop the conference standings.
Mathes opened the scoring at 15:05 by blasting in her first goal of 2023. Senior forward
Gianna D'Amato (Maywood, N.J./Hawthorne Christian) assisted the Mathes goal.
Stevenson pushed the lead to 3-0 by scoring back-to-back goals in a three-minute span. Stevenson scored at 24:43 after an assist from Mathes. She then added her second goal of the afternoon at 27:15. Mathes and Vannoy both provided assists on Stevenson's goal, her third of the season.
Vannoy scored Grove City's fourth goal of the match at 29:16. Sophomore defender
Karly Keller (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) assisted Vannoy's goal. Dailey closed the first half scoring at 43:46 with her first collegiate goal. Dailey scored after collecting a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Hailey Muñoz (Sparta, N.J./Morris Catholic).
Garvey scored twice in the first 4:11 of the second half. She scored 20 seconds into the period after receiving a feed from junior midfielder
Lexi Zook (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove). Garvey added her second goal at 49:11, following an assist from Muñoz.
Williams closed the scoring with an unassisted goal at 65:18.
Grove City held a 37-3 edge in total shots, along with a 19-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Wolverines had 14 corner kicks and Thiel had one corner kick.
Junior
Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) played the first half in goal, earning her 27th career win. Freshman
Maddie Mills (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) made two saves in the second half to close out the shutout.
Grove City will visit conference rival Geneva at 7 p.m. Friday in Beaver Falls.
