GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Six Grove City College men's soccer players scored goals to lift the Wolverines to a 7-0 home victory Wednesday night over Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington & Jefferson (4-7-5, 3-3-4) in both teams' regular season finale at Don Lyle Field.
Wednesday's win gives Grove City (7-5-5, 6-3-1 PAC) the No. 3 seed in the upcoming six-team conference tournament. The defeat knocks W&J out of tournament contention.
Junior midfielder
Matt Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) scored twice in the first half to give Grove City a 2-0 lead after 45 minutes. The Wolverines then broke open the match by scoring four times in a nine-minute span of the second half.Â

Ari Campbell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station), senior forward
Hunter Hardin (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Freeport), junior defender
Luke Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) and sophomore
Owen Zimmerman (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) all scored during the outburst, giving Grove City a 6-0 lead.Â

Fisher Berkowich (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) closed the scoring with a penalty kick goal at 76:15.
Herrmann opened the scoring at 13:51 with his first goal of the season. Hardin assisted the goal. Herrmann then pushed the lead to 2-0 at 30:06 with a penalty kick goal after a W&J foul in the box.Â
Campbell ignited Grove City's four-goal outburst 4:56 into the second half when he registered his team-leading fourth goal of 2023. Senior defender
Chris DeLucia (Kent, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and sophomore midfielder
Aidan Eck (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) both recorded assists on the goal.
Hardin blasted in his third goal of the season at 55:37, extending the lead to 4-0. Forty-one seconds later, Kimmich scored his third goal in the last two matches after he received an assist from junior midfielder
John-Luc Harbour (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield).Â
Zimmerman tallied his second goal of the season at 58:54. Hardin recorded his team-leading third assist of the season on Zimmerman's goal. Hardin leads Grove City with nine points.
Defensively, the Wolverines did not allow a shot on goal. Sophomore
Teddy Almeter (Monroeville, Pa./Serra) played 65:28 in goal. Junior
Jacob Clark (New Cumberland, W.Va./Oak Glen) closed out the shutout by playing the final 24:32. It is Grove City's seventh overall shutout and first combined shutout of the season.
Grove City out-shot W&J, 19-5. The Wolverines put 11 shots on goal. Grove City also doubled up W&J in corner kicks, 4-2.Â
The Wolverines will host No. 6 Allegheny (6-10, 5-5 PAC) in the tournament quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Saturday. Allegheny won October 11 at Don Lyle Field, 2-1. The winner will visit No. 2 Franciscan in the semifinals next Wednesday, November 1.
