GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team honored its eight seniors prior to Saturday afternoon's home Presidents' Athletic Conference match with Saint Vincent at Don Lyle Field. Three juniors made sure that the Wolverines won on Senior Day.
Junior forward
Emma Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) broke a scoreless tie at 79:17 by scoring off an assist from classmate
Britta Lagerquist (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) as the Wolverines earned a 1-0 victory over Saint Vincent.
Saturday's win raises Grove City's conference record to 8-0-1. The Wolverines have clinched the top seed and home-field advantage in the upcoming six-team conference tournament.
Grove City (11-4-1 overall) outshot Saint Vincent (9-4-3, 5-2-2) by a 9-1 margin in the first half but could not break through. Herrmann gave Grove City the lead 34 minutes into the second half with her team-leading 15th goal of the season. It is her fifth game-winning goal of 2023. Lagerquist posted her team-best sixth assist of the campaign.
Grove City finished the game with a 19-8 edge in total shots, along with an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Grove City had seven corner kicks while Saint Vincent tallied four.
Junior goalkeeper
Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) made five saves to secure the shutout win. It is Lisman's 32nd career win. She is one win away from tying Kristi Lathrop (2011-14) and Trishae Winters (2014-17) for second in program history. Katy Turman (1999-2002) owns the school record with 34 career wins in goal.
