Wolverines charge past SVC, 5-1

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior defender Luke Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) scored two goals and assisted on a third Saturday afternoon while seniors Ari Campbell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) and Lance Lenosky (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River) also scored to help lead the Grove City College men's soccer team to a 5-1 Senior Day victory over Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent at Don Lyle Field.

Sophomore forward Owen Zimmerman (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) also scored for the Wolverines (6-5-5, 5-3-1 PAC), who clinched a spot in the season-ending six-team conference tournament with Saturday's victory.

Campbell opened the scoring at 19:04 by recording his third goal of the 2023 season. Senior defender Matt Van Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) assisted Campbell's goal.

Kimmich doubled the lead at the 22:23 mark with his first goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Aidan Eck (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) assisted Kimmich's goal, which is his first career game-winner.

Zimmerman closed the first-half scoring at 35:06 with his first collegiate goal. Classmate Matt Sampsell (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) assisted Zimmerman.

Kimmich's unassisted goal 4:11 into the second half extended the lead to 4-0. He then assisted Lenosky's goal at 59:58.

Saint Vincent's Jose Hurtado broke up the shutout with a goal at 65:07.

Grove City doubled up Saint Vincent in total shots, 20-10. The Wolverines had 11 shots on goal while Saint Vincent had three shots. The Wolverines also had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore Teddy Almeter (Monroeville, Pa./Serra) earned the win in goal by making two saves in 90 minutes of action.

Prior to the match, Grove City recognized 15 graduating players: Fisher Berkowich (Oxford, Pa./Oxford), Campbell, Chris DeLucia (Kent, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), Chris Eklund (Alton, N.H./Wheaton Academy, Ill.), Samuel Giannetti (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Jacob Graham (Creston, Ohio/Norwayne), Hunter Hardin (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Freeport), Matt Kimmich (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional), Lenosky, Jonah Loew (Center Valley, Pa./Faith Christian), Clay Meredith (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park), Tim Prather (Kent, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), Sam Schudel (Stuttgart, Germany, Stuttgart), Van Kirk and Ross Ziemianski (Avonmore, Pa./Kiski Area).

Berkowich is a junior who will graduate early. Matt Kimmich is a fifth-year senior. 

Grove City will close the regular season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by hosting conference rival Washington & Jefferson. Grove City will clinch a home match in the conference tournament quarterfinals by earning a win or draw Wednesday.
