BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Grove City College women's soccer team improved to 6-0-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 4-0 win Friday night at Bethany in conference action at Bison Stadium.
Grove City (9-4-1 overall) bolted to a 3-0 lead in the first 26 minutes as junior
Emma Herrmann (Hilton, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) recorded the Wolverines' first hat trick of 2023. She scored her three goals in a 14-minute span, starting with an unassisted goal at 11:18.
Herrmann then doubled the lead at 21:58 with her second goal of the night. She completed her hat trick at the 25:07 mark with her team-leading 12th goal of the season. It is Herrmann's fourth multi-goal game of the season. The hat trick also marks the first for the Wolverines since Michaela Burke scored three times October 26, 2019 in a 4-0 home win over Bethany. It is Grove City's first road hat trick since Ruby Mattson scored four times September 27, 2019 at Thiel.
Grove City closed the scoring 16:45 into the second half when junior midfielder
Erin Venus (Medina, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) scored for the second time in as many matches. Junior forward
Natalie Merrick (Cranberry Township, Pa./Eden Christian) assisted the Venus goal. Merrick now has a three-match point streak.
Grove City doubled up Bethany (2-9-3, 1-6 PAC) in shots, 16-8. Grove City also owned an 11-5 edge in shots on goal. The Wolverines recorded three corner kicks while Bethany netted a pair of corners.
Junior goalkeeper
Courtney Lisman (Mars, Pa./Mars) made five shots to preserve the Wolverines' third shutout of the season.
Grove City closes the road portion of the 2023 regular season Wednesday with an 8 p.m. match at Waynesburg University.
