15 score in big road win

PITTSBURGH -- Fifteen Grove City College men's lacrosse players scored goals Saturday to lead the Wolverines to a 25-5 win at Chatham in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Graham Field. Winners of six straight, Grove City (8-4, 2-0 PAC) bolted to a 13-1 lead in the second quarter and led 17-2 at halftime.

Seven of Grove City's 15 goal-scorers recorded multiple goals Saturday, led by a four-goal outing from junior attack James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus). Senior midfielder Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) fired in three goals while five men scored twice: sophomore midfielder Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California), freshman attack Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima), sophomore midfielder Jack Carpenter (Newtown, Conn./St. Joseph), senior midfielder Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and senior attack Josh Spicher (Erie, Pa./McDowell).

The Wolverines also received goals from sophomore midfielder Jack Atwood (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), junior long stick midfielder Kyle Coogan (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis Christian), freshman midfielder Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame), senior attack Michael La Forte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford), freshman midfielder Tim Plyler (Meadville, Pa./Meadville), sophomore attack Trenton Steele (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch), senior midfielder Keith Torrillo (Latrobe, Pa./Latrobe) and freshman midfielder Trey Zabroski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood).

Blythe and Zabroski both had three assists while Petrolle recorded two assists. Agawa, Atwood, Gladstone and Spicher all added assists. 

Evans, Gladstone and Petrolle all scored twice in the first quarter to help Grove City take a 10-1 lead after 15 minutes. Agawa, Coogan and Evans scored in the first four minutes of the second quarter, pushing the lead to 13-1.

Evans won all 12 of his faceoffs while Torrillo won 13 of 17 opportunities. Evans led Grove City with 12 ground balls and Torrillo recorded eight ground balls. Gladstone and Steele each picked up three ground balls.

Grove City outshot Chatham (2-9, 0-2 PAC) 56-29. The Wolverines had 18 turnovers while Chatham had 13 turnovers. 

Sophomore goalkeeper Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) earned the win by making four saves in the first half. Senior R.J. Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) stopped seven shots in the second half.

Grove City will visit conference rival Thiel at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Greenville.
