GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Eight Grove City College men's lacrosse players scored goals Saturday afternoon to help erase an early deficit as the Wolverines downed visiting Saint Vincent (6-1, 0-1) in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Grove City (7-4, 1-0) trailed 2-0 after one quarter but quickly tied the game in the first minute of the second quarter as freshman attack
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) scored a goal 36 second into the period, then assisted senior midfielder
Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) 18 seconds later.Â
Grove City took a 4-3 lead with 5:16 left in the half as junior midfielder
David Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) picked up a ground ball in the defensive end, sprinted downfield and fired in an unassisted goal, breaking a 3-3 deadlock.

Jed Speers (Medina, Ohio/Medina) pushed the lead to 5-3 with 2:37 remaining in the half. Freshman midfielder
Jason Muench (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) capped the first half by scoring his first goal of the season with 28 seconds left.
Saint Vincent forged a 6-6 tie with 4:05 left in the third quarter but Blythe and freshman midfielder
Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) scored in a 14-second span to put the Wolverines ahead to stay.
Blythe led Grove City with four goals while Gladstone scored twice. Senior long stick midfielder
Addison Bennett (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) and junior attack
James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus) also scored for Grove City.
Speers recorded three assists and Blythe notched two assists. Sophomore midfielder
Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California), senior attack
Michael La Forte (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) and sophomore attack
Trenton Steele (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) all tallied assists.
Gladstone led Grove City with seven ground balls. Kraus collected six ground balls and junior defender
Brock Simmons (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) had five ground balls. Bennett, Blythe, Steele and senior
Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) each recorded four ground balls. Evans won 21 of 22 faceoffs.
Bennett and Simmons each caused three turnovers. In goal, sophomore
Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) stopped nine shots to earn his third straight victory.
Grove City outshot Saint Vincent, 60-22, including a 28-16 advantage in shots on goal. Saint Vincent had 14 turnovers and Grove City committed 13 turnovers.Â
The programs have split their six all-time meetings.Â
Grove City will visit conference foe Chatham next Saturday at 12 p.m. in Pittsburgh.
