GROVE CITY, Pa. -- A fast start and a record-setting performance in goal helped lift the Grove City College men's lacrosse team to a 14-10 home victory Wednesday night over No. 19 Denison in non-conference action at Robert E. Thorn Field.
Grove City (6-4) charged out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter and then pushed the lead to 7-0 early in the second period. Sophomore goalie
Danny Stone (Chantilly, Va./Flint Hill) made the early lead stand up as he tied Grove City's single-game record by stopping 18 shots.

Brett Gladstone (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) paced the Wolverines with five goals while fellow senior midfielder
Jed Speers (Medina, Ohio/Medina) scored three times.

James Petrolle (Damascus, Md./Damascus) and freshman attack
Matt Blythe (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) both scored twice. Sophomore attack
Trenton Steele (Littleton, Colo./Highlands Ranch) and freshman midfielder
Alec Jones (Chesterfield, N.J./Notre Dame) added goals for the Wolverines.
Gladstone scored three times in the first quarter to help fuel Grove City's start. Petrolle, Steele and Jones also scored in the opening period while Blythe's goal seven seconds into the second quarter pushed the lead to 7-0.
Denison whittled the lead to 9-5 but Petrolle's goal with three seconds left in the half gave Grove City a 10-5 halftime lead. Speers then scored once in the third quarter and twice in the final period to help sew up the victory.

Griffen Agawa (San Ramon, Calif./California) all recorded two assists. Petrolle, Speers, Steele and junior
David Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) each tallied one assist.
Senior
Grant Evans (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) won 15 of 21 faceoffs for the Wolverines. He also picked up a team-leading seven ground balls. Gladstone and Kraus each had four ground balls. Petrolle, Stone, junior defender

Tyler Curry (Huntington Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) all registered three ground balls.
Senior defender
Cody Adams (Pullman, Wash./Pullman) caused two turnovers. Denison had 13 turnovers while Grove City turned over possession 21 times.
Denison outshot Grove City, 44-37, and held a 28-25 edge in shots on goal. Grove City won 15 of 24 faceoffs in the game.
Stone tied the single-game saves record first set by current senior
R.J. Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East), as he made 18 saves March 16, 2019 at Messiah.
Grove City will host Saint Vincent at 3 p.m. Saturday at Thorn Field in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener.
