GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Led by a trio of double-digit scorers Wednesday night, the Grove City College men's basketball team toppled Presidents' Athletic Conference leader Chatham, 70-65, in conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Senior guard
Ben Rose (Helena, Ala./Helena) paced Grove city with 13 points while junior forward
Josh Bryan (Salem, Va./Salem) and freshman guard
Jonah Bock (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each added 11 points.
Sophomore forward
Chris Brooks (Canfield, Ohio/South Range) broke the 14th and final tie of the game with 52 seconds left as he sank two free throws with 52 seconds left.
Bock then pushed the lead to 67-62 on Grove City's next possession. He made the front end of a bonus situation and after missing the second free throw, snared the offensive rebound and drew another foul. He then sank both foul shots.
Junior forward
Elijah White (Zelienople, Pa./Portersville Christian) sealed the win by sinking two free throws with 1.1 seconds left.
Brooks's tip-in with 2:06 left in the first half gave Grove City a 21-19 lead. Neither team scored over the final two minutes of the half.
Regionally-ranked Chatham (17-2, 12-2 PAC) took a 35-31 lead with 14:31 left in the second half but Grove City quickly reclaimed the lead. Sophomore forward
Sam Schudel (Stuttgart, Germany/Stuttgart) drained a three-pointer and Brooks then gave Grove City the lead with a layup.
Rose added nine rebounds and Bock had seven boards. Sophomore forward
Luca Robinson (Castaic, Calif./Hart) added six rebounds as Grove City owned a 55-32 edge on the glass.
Rose also had five assists while White blocked two shots. Brooks finished with eight points.
Grove City shot 26 of 63 (41 percent) for the game, including a 17-of-32 (53 percent) effort over the final 20 minutes. Chatham went 23 of 67 (34 percent), including a 7-for-35 (20 percent) effort on three-pointers. Chatham entered the game as the conference's top three-point shooting team at 36 percent for the season.
Grove City turned over the ball 18 times and Chatham had eight turnovers. Malik Potter led Chatham with 20 points.
Grove City (9-12, 5-9 PAC) continues its three-game homestand Saturday at 3 p.m. against Thiel.
